Reasons why you should Overcome Fear
I Am Beloved Blog (March 2018) Submission
When it comes to the word FEAR it symbolizes False Evidence Appearing Real. Its Greek word “phobia” means panic fear of. The Bible talks about fear a whole lot and has over 40 Bible verses about it. God tells us to not be fearful because it shows our heart towards him.
In I John 4:18, the scripture states, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” God says in this verse that there is no fear in love and that perfect love removes fear. He wants us to know that fear and love are contrary to one another. You can’t love God and expect to have all that he wants you to have while in fear. Another scripture that was powerful to me is when he says, “Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; and divine retribution he will come save you.” In this verse, God is nurturing to us by his voice. He wants us to know to not fear and that he will save us.
God shows us how important it is to keep in mind about what he said about overcoming fear which is through song. In Psalm 23:4, It states, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” This verse comforts us as well by helping us understand that what we speak is powerful. We have to get to that point of staring fear in the eyes and let him know that we are not scared at all.
The last scripture that is important to me is John 14:27. It states, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Here in this verse, God tells us that God gives us peace in a way that even the world cannot give. When you think about it, when you are fearful, you do not have any peace and that’s Satan’s way of robbing you from having a fulfilled and peaceful life. He wants to keep you in bondage and be fearful to the point that you can’t walk in your purpose. Don’t let that be you, a lot of times you have to stare him in the face and say, “I am not scared of you.”
I had to do this plenty of times during my walk with God. I seen the enemy quite a few times and it irritates me when I do. My first encounter with him ever was when I was in depression. I felt this heavy spirit on top of me while I was laying in my bed. I couldn’t see him, but I did notice it was a dark spirit. The spirit was trying to kill me in my subconsciousness. It seemed like the more I was scared the heavier the spirit was on me. It took for me to speak in tongues in order for the spirit to release itself off of me.
Another encounter I had was when I was going through deliverance. Once I saw it was time for me to leave an affair I had with a married man alone, I was confronted by the enemy in a dream. The dream started off with the man I had an affair with. He was trying to have sex with me and I told him no. All of a sudden the enemy transformed to himself and tried to force intercourse. I told him I did not belong to him, I belong to Jesus and he said, “Says who?” I said, “It is written.” He all of a sudden disappeared.
So as you see fear is nothing to play with at all, Satan uses it to paralyze your growth. He does not want you to prosper at all. Of course, I have had more encounters than that, but you get the
picture. I would say if you have any fear, ask God to expose it and he will. It will be frustrating at first, but once it is all said and done, you will be free and you won’t have to be in bondage ever again!!!
